Louis James Austin, Sr.

Louis James Austin, Sr. was a resident of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He entered this world on Sunday, February 26, 1956, and departed on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the age of 67.

Louis was born on Sunday, February 26, 1956, to Felton McDaniel and Ada Austin in Independence, Louisiana. Louis attended Ponchatoula High School and graduated in 1974. After graduating from high school, Louis worked as a construction worker for several years in Louisiana before moving to New Mexico. Louis worked as a jewelry maker at Enchantment Jewelry. Then, Louis began to work for Rio Rancho Public Schools until retirement.

Louis had a wonderful spirit and personality, if you knew Louis, he was a Man of God. He loved to visit and pray with anyone and everyone. Louis was a family man, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Louis also played football, broke records, loved going on walks, attending to his flowers and was the life of the party.

Louis loved his church family from Bethesda and Los Ranchos Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was dependable and available to whoever needed a visit at the hospital or home with a prayer on the phone or in person. Louis also provided words of wisdom and encouragement to everyone and anyone.

Louis is survived by his wife, Ellen Austin; his children, Umar El-Ansari, Louis James Austin, Jr., Jonathan Josiah Austin, and Jermima Angelique Austin; his siblings, Ora Lee Austin and Kenny Austin (Charlene); his aunt, Olivia Austin; his grandchildren, Tyler Scott, Damian Austin-Lykes, Olivia Austin and Oryiah Austin (Desirae Brown - mom); great-grandchildren, Bronx Scott and Kamari Scott, and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.

Louis was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheronda Scott; his granddaughter, Tearome Scott; his mother, Ada Austin, and his father, Felton McDaniel.

Louis will be greatly missed by his family, friends, co-workers from RRPS, and church family from Bethesda and Los Ranchos Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 6, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Albuquerque Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4920 Wyoming Blvd NE, with a Graveside to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road, Rio Rancho.
