Lucy Miera Montoya

Lucy Miera Montoya, a resident of Bernalillo, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Barbara.

Lucy was born to Manuel and Josefita Miera on March 10, 1925 in Bernalillo NM. She graduated from Harwood Girls School in Albuquerque in 1943 and married Reuben J. Montoya on October 16, 1943 at Marana Air Base, Marana AZ. Upon his discharge, they returned to Bernalillo where they raised their family. Lucy was very community-minded. She was a past member of the Bernalillo Women's Club and Bernalillo Public School Board of Education. She was a charter member and charter Regent of Court Immaculate Heart of Mary, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and held several offices at the local and state level, including State Regent. She continued to be a member in good standing for the last 66 years. Lucy was the secretary/bookkeeper at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo for 20 years and continued as a volunteer for many years after her retirement. 
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband who passed away in 2010, her parents, brothers Carlos, Manuel and Ernest Miera and sister Cora Alvarado. 
Lucy is survived by her children Rita Montoya, Barbara Montoya Griego and husband George, Annette Montoya, and Danny Montoya and wife Lisa. She was very much loved by her 10 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 
We would like to thank our cousin, Pam Miera, for the loving care she gave Mom the last several months. We would also like to thank her nurse, Laurie, and her home health aide, Jean, from Presbyterian Hospice. 

Rosary and Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 S. Camino del Pueblo, Bernalillo NM on Friday February 26, 2021 at 10:00 am.
