Our friend Luis (Louie) Campos passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 after a long medical battle. He was born September 11, 1948 in heart of Albuquerque’
He became an Albuquerque music icon as co-owner of the legendary Blackjack’s Music, Wild West Music and later owner of Encore Music. He was a great supporter of local music and musicians, an internationally regarded expert on vintage guitars, and a supplier of musical instruments to top entertainers as well as thousands of local performers and students. He had a hand in helping stage or equip most of the rock concerts we attended, and most of the local bands we danced to, in the late ‘60’s, ‘70’s, ‘80’s, ‘90’s, and beyond. Don’t we wish he’d have written that book – his life story and his many, many anecdotes and adventures would have greatly added to the chronicle of rock’n’roll in the 20th century.
Moreover, he was an avid disciple of Jesus Christ — and if you were around him for very long during a visit to his shop, or backstage at any of a countless number of concerts and venues, he’d have been sure to tell you so. Or, maybe, he wouldn’t have had to tell you. Time and time again, he demonstrated the life of Christ in him by eagerly showing compassion, generosity, wisdom or kindness to anyone and everyone around him.
Louie is survived by Annie, his wife of 23 years; aunts Mela B Gurule and Cathy Olquine; his sister Victoria Lorraine Campos and her daughter, his niece Amber Marie Campos; his six children: Alejandro Campos, Robert McGinley, Eli McGinley, Amie Donner, Louis Giammona and Emily Dunn; as well as his five grandchildren.
Along with these family members, we, his friends gathered together today – along with friends all over the world – will have to wait until heaven to see Louie again.
