Padilla, Luis "Big Bird"
Age 71, of San Antonio, NM passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2015 in Socorro, NM. He was born in San Antonio, NM on January 13, 1944, to  Isabel Sr. and Esther (Gonzales) Padilla. Luis served his country in Vietnam as a member of the Armed Forces Airforce Division from 1962 to 1967 and retired from the Albuquerque Fire Dept. after 23 years of service. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his kind heart.  Luis never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to play golf and could be seen marshalling at the local golf course. Luis was a dedicated family man and very strong in his faith. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and will be honored by his many brother firefighters and golfers. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Isabel Padilla Jr., Victor Padilla; and his sister, Flora Ortega.  Luis is survived by wife, Tina Montoya Padilla of San Antonio, NM; children, Damian Padilla and wife, Rachel and granddaughters, Jordan, Bethany and Rebekah, all of Sierra Vista, AZ; DeAnn Padilla and grandson, Darion of Phoenix, AZ; and son Phillip Gallegos and wife, Janell and granddaughters, Kaylie and Kasie of Luis Lopez, NM; many step children, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; brother, Herman Padilla and wife, Hortencia of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Carla Santillanes of Albuquerque, and Alicia Hidalgo and husband, Raymundo of Lemitar, NM. His family and friends will celebrate his life and his last call as a firefighter will be Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 10:00 am at the San Antonio Fire Station, 40 Hwy 380, San Antonio, NM.
