Lydia Gatan

June 18, 1940 — August 25, 2016

Lydia Martinez Gatan passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was seventy six years old. We lost a mom, grandma, wife and so much more to so many others. In her last days she was comforted and cared for by family who loved her dearly. “Aunty Lee” or “Lyds” graduated from Valley High School in Albuquerque and married her husband Roberto of fifty five years. Roberto and Lydia lived and traveled in different states while Roberto served in the United States Air Force. She built a family of two sons and they eventually came back to Albuquerque. Her family continued to grow as she took in her nephew to raise him as her own.
Lydia lived her life as a homemaker and opened her heart and home to where many friends and family gathered. She adored her sons and was a mom, confidant, and friend to their friends. She shared wonderful times with her friends from the German Club and Pilipino Club where her and her husband hosted many barbeques and parties and she loved music and dancing.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she cherished the times of watching them grow and was a cheerleader at their sporting events.
Lydia believed in the Lord and was welcomed into heaven by her parents, siblings, and precious grandson, Daniel Lee Gatan.  She leaves behind her beloved husband Roberto, her sons Michael Gatan of Las Vegas, Nevada and wife Dawn, Robert Gatan (Christi) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and her nephew Mark Martinez and wife Geneva of Estancia, New Mexico. Grandchildren, Christopher Gatan of Albuquerque, Anthony Gatan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Adam Gatan and wife Sirintra of Las Vegas, Nevada and Justin Gatan of Albuquerque along with five great grandchildren.
We will remember Lydia at a private memorial on Saturday, September 3, 2016 and she will be placed in her final resting place at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
“Seashells remind us that every passing life leaves something beautiful behind.” We will forever love you Lyds.
