Magdalena Lucero

September 13, 1940 — April 3, 2019

Magdalena Lucero, age 78 was embraced by our Lord Jesus Wednesday, April 3, 2019 and taken to her heavenly home. Magdalena will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those whose lives she touched.

A beautiful life
that came to an end,
she died as she lived, everyone's
friend.

​Magdalena Lucero was born in September of 1940 in Maxwell, New Mexico to Frank and Virginia Padilla. She attended school in Springer, New Mexico and later moved to Albuquerque where she attended and graduated from Valley High School. She married Ernest Lucero in April of 1970 and together they had three children: Ernest Matthew, Virginia Monica and Johnny Leonard.
Magdalena worked at various jobs throughout her life including a tailor at Fedway Department Store downtown, teaching assistant with Albuquerque Public Schools and a seamstress and sales associate at Helen’s Wedding Bell and Bridal Elegance by Darlene. She was a talented musician who played tenor saxophone in her dad Frank’s band.
Magdalena was a strong, generous, loving and caring person. She always put everyone else first and everyone who knew her loved her. She was a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
Magdalena was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia Padilla, infant twin siblings Frank Jr and Virginia, and husband Ernest Lucero. She is survived by her children, Ernest Matthew, Virginia Monica, and Johnny Leonard, her longtime companion Trinidad Lopez, siblings Cecilia Olmstead, Lydia Montoya and husband Joe, Gina Bethea, Dolores Gonzales, Fran Amato, Joe Frank Padilla and wife Barbie, grandchildren Xavier Lucero, Zacharia Lucero, Idallis Garcia, Carolina Garcia, and Jaylen Lucero, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private burial will take place June 12, 2019 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the UNM Cancer Center and Dr. Carolyn Muller and Edwinna Garcia, as well as Heritage Hospice who took such good care of Magdalena. The honor your presence is appreciated in lieu of flowers.
