Marquez, Manuel  R. "Rick"
58, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2015 with his loving family at his side. He was born in Socorro, NM on September 17, 1956 to Manuel R. "Manny" and Virginia (Douglas) Marquez. Rick was a lifelong resident of Socorro. He graduated from Socorro High School, Class of '74. He attended New Mexico Tech, UNM, and also CNM where he achieved his Bachelors degree in Elementary Education among other degrees. Teaching was Rick's dream come true, he was an amazing teacher and loved all of his "Little Warrior's" like they were his own. Rick loved the outdoors - camping, bird watching, and riding his Harley were some of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed being around his family and friends and he was the "Captain of the Channel Patrol". He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his Cowboy's, Celtic's, Yankee's, Braves, Lobos, and especially The Socorro Warriors. He loved his music. Above all, Rick loved and adored his wife to the fullest, they were inseparable from the first day they met. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; God daughter, Nicole; aunt Lola; and his brother, Chris. Manuel  is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 40 years, Julie A. (Otero) Marquez; his loving parents; his sister, Becky Myrin and husband, Michael; mother in law, Mary Otero; God daughter, Moreen Mendiola; sisters in law, Monica Marquez; Rosanna Garcia; Ida Christiansen and husband, Bob; Dinnie "Fea" Otero; Sarah Wallace; Nena Otero; Cindy Thrasher; and Juanita Wood and husband, James; and his brothers in law, Tommy Otero and wife, Elaine; Tony Otero; and Michael Otero and wife, Linda. Rick will live on in the hearts of his Parkview Family-students, faculty, and staff and also all of his loving nieces, nephews, other family members and close friends. The Holy Rosary will be recited by Deacon Mike Ybarra on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 7:00 pm at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro. A Mass of Christian Burial and Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 9:00 am also at San Miguel Catholic Church with Monsignor Gomez as Celebrant.  Inurnment will be held at a later date. Pallbearers are Manny Myrin, Alarik Myrin, Tony Otero, Michael Otero, Andy Romero, Pat Garcia, Bob Christiansen and Scott Pinney. Honorary pallbearers are Peter Anselmo; Fermin Savedra; Esther Savedra; Mandie Graham; Michael Lee Evans; Stephanie O'Toole; and his loving Parkview Family.
