MARJORIE ANN OLSON GARZA 1929-2024  

Marjorie Ann “Margie” Olson Garza, 94, died early Friday, July 12, 2024, at home with her family, in Rio Rancho, NM. Margie was born on October 10, 1929, in Galva, Iowa. Her parents, Glenn Harold Olson and Florence Fick Olson raised her in their small home, at the back of Pinky’s Café. Her older brother, Robert Glenn Olson was her closet friend. 

Upon graduation from Galva High School in 1947, she was recruited by the FBI as a clerk typist and moved to Washington, DC, at age 17. 

She married Richard Dix Garza on March 19, 1953. They made their home in Arlington, Virginia, where they raised their two daughters, Bonilynn Sue Garza Galarneau and Patricia Anita Garza (deceased). 

Margie became a secretary at the United States Marine Corps Headquarters, Aviation Division, in 1955, and continued working for many officers (including Generals). She retired in 1987 after 32 years of civilian service. 

After retirement, she became a receptionist for the Air Force Association, Arlington, VA, for 10 years. Then she really retired. In 2000, she moved to New Mexico, to be near her family. She enjoyed the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, her gardens, her dogs, and her family. 

She was a true story-teller Olson, as she shared many of the family stories, remembering her Norwegian aunts and uncles, and time spent on the Iowa farm. 

She is survived by her daughter, Boni Galarneau and husband, William; grandsons, Adam Galarneau (Sarah); Kenneth “Skip” Galarneau, Jule Brandon Garza, Sean Anthony Haynes; granddaughter, DeshaRae Platz; and seven great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robert Olson, and her daughter, Patricia Garza. 

A Celebration of Life for Margie will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Chapel, Sara Road Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. A private luncheon for Margie’s friends and family will follow at 12:15pm at the banquet room at Turtle Mountain Brewing Company, 905 36th Place SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
