Marion Glen "Red" Young

Marion Glen "Red" Young, a resident of Peralta, NM, passed away November 22, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born October 27, 1922 in Ravenna, Texas to Wesley Isom Young and Carrie Jane Wright Young. Red graduated from Bonham High School in Bonham, Texas in 1941. In 1943 he was drafted into the Army Air Corps and fought in WWII from January 1943 until September 1945. He flew as a member of the 15th Air Force, 484th Bomb Group and was the recipient of many military commendation and medals. After the War, he attended Texas Tech University graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. From 1950-1956 he worked for the Public Utility Company in Guymon, Oklahoma. He moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1956 to work for Sandia Labs in the Nuclear Stock Pile Test and Evaluation Department from which he retired in 1985. Over the years, Red was a member of many service organizations. He was a member of the Shiners, the Masons, and the VFW in Los Lunas. He was the District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts in Albuquerque from 1958-1966. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl; sister, Parilee Campbell; and son, Raymond. Red is survived by his sister, Oleta Walker; son, Clint Sharpley and wife Mary; son, David Young, wife Sherry, granddaughter Carrie Ortiz; great-grandson, Kobe Braynt; son Wesley Young and wife Debbie; son Mark Young, wife Quanda and grandsons James and Tony; and daughter Diane Ellis, husband Pat and granddaughters Melissa and Shannon. Inurnment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on December 4, 2013 at 12:45 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2951 Honor Guard of Santa Fe, NM.
