Ortega, Mark 65, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 with his family at his side. He was born in Carrizozo, NM on April 8, 1949 to Harim and Trina (Lopez) Ortega. Mark was a Socorro resident for about the last 20 years. He proudly served with the United States Navy from 1969 -1971. Mark worked as a head painter and later retired from New Mexico Tech - Physical Plant after 10 years of dedicated service. He had many hobbies, he truly enjoyed playing pitcher for his softball team, throwing horseshoes and riding his Harley. Mark was the #1 Dallas Cowboy Fan, and we know, he now has the best seat to cheer on his team. He was a member of San Miguel Catholic Church and very dedicated to his faith. Mark had a big heart and loved his family more than anything. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; his brothers, Bruce and Herbie Ortega; and his sister, Priscilla Ripley. Mark is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Hope (Montano) Ortega; his devoted children, Jason Ortega and wife, Wanda; Mark Ortega Jr. and wife, Ruth; Angelina Ortega; Diana Vaiza and partner, Jr. Baca; and Joseph Vaiza and wife, Darlene. Mark enjoyed and was very proud his 17 grandchildren and his 3 great grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his brothers, Pete Adler; Belsome Ortega; Perry Ortega; and Robert Garcia; his sister, Pristina Casella; his sister and brother in law, Rick and Diana Baca; his dogs, Coco and Dottie; and many other loving family members and close friends. The Holy Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 8:30 am at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real , Socorro followed by the Mass of Resurrection which will be celebrated at 9:00 am with Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the San Miguel Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jason Ortega, JR Baca, Jared Padilla, and Joseph Vaiza. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Ortega Jr., and all of his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
