Mary Louise Brooks

Mary Louise (Winkle) Sherman Brooks, went home, to be with her heavenly family on December 15, 2016, in Albuquerque, NM. She was residing with her daughter, Janie Owens, at the time of her death. She was born to Lucille Amador on May 2, 1925, in Las Cruces, NM. Her stepfather was Hiram Pickard. She was the grand-daughter of Francisca (Lucero) Amador, one of the pioneer families of Las Cruces and Dona Ana County.Winkle married Don Chitwood, in Las Cruces, in 1940 and they had one daughter, Janie Valentine Chitwoon. Winkle was a widow, of Melvin Brooks a long time resident of Las Cruces. She was preceded in death by her son in law, Alva Gene Owens and grandsons, Jerry Don and Larry Gene. She leaves behind her daughter Janie, her grandson Russell and wife Andrea, great grandchildren Nolan, Devin, Sam, Haily and Lulu, Foster children Robert and Ken Caudle of Las Cruces NM, brother Robert Pickard of Tularosa NM and Sister Frances (Frankie) Pack of Las Cruces.  Winkle was employed by New Mexico State University in the County Extension Department where she was employed for 30 years and retired in 1983. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December the 23, 2016 at 11:00AM at Daniels Family Funeral Services Carlisle Chapel. Interment to follow at Masonic Cemetery on February the 17th in Las Cruces.
