Cappelen, Mary Frances
Mary Frances Cappelen, 93, passed away May 31, 2015. She was born 29 Jan 1922, in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Edward and Ruth Lacroix. On 27 Oct 1947, she married Arthur Martin Eisenbart, Jr., to whom she was married for 29 years and with whom she had 6 children. At age 54, Mary took on the role of single mom, with 4 children still at home. She rejoined the work force, went back to school to brush up on business skills, and eventually worked for many years for San Diego City Schools as an office clerk. Mary’s greatest passions were music and dancing. Mary always had music on in her home and could frequently be seen dancing in place while cooking in the kitchen. Every week she would go with her girlfriends to singles dances -- swing, ballroom, or square dancing, which is where she met her second husband, Ted Cappelen, whom she married on 26 Mar 1988. Mary also had a love of golf. In her later years, when she could no longer play, she would often comment on how much she missed the sport.
Mary changed the world through the six children she raised. Through unquestioning love, gentle kindness, and a terrific sense of humor, she created a close-knit, loving, devoted family unlike many others. Mary was a role model for not only what a mother should be, but also what a strong, independent woman should be.
Mary was a woman who loved her sisters and her parents with all her heart and who loved to meet with her sisters at least once a year for what they called their "sisters' party” around Christmas time. Even into their 80’s, they were still getting together as often as possible to love, laugh, and reminisce.
Mary is survived by her six children: Kathy Spradling, David (Terry) Eisenbart, James (Karen) Eisenbart, Robert Eisenbart, Cindy Ortiz, Rick (Diana) Eisenbart; her son-in-law, Fred Tinker; her grandchildren: Michael Spradling, David Eisenbart, Jr., Dona Eisenbart, Crystal Beal, Bryce Eisenbart, Jarett Eisenbart, Amaris Ortiz, Andrea Ortiz, and Alex Eisenbart; her sister Jean Kopp, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ted Cappelen; her sisters, Doris Ventura and Rita Sullivan; her brothers-in-law: Dan Ventura, John Sullivan, and John Kopp; her daughter-in-law, Linda Eisenbart, her son-in-law, Ray Spradling; and a granddaughter, Angel Spradling.
The family would like to thank the staff of LifeSpire Assisted Living who demonstrated genuine care and compassion to our mother in the last 2 years of her life, and especially in her final days.
Cremation will be handled by Daniels Family Funeral Services and her ashes will be entombed at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Rio Rancho, NM. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mary will be forever in our hearts.
