Mary Chaves

Chaves, Mary 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hagerman, NM on July 22, 1926 to Pedro and Elvira (Gonzales) Sanchez. Mary was a Socorro resident since 1983. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering. Mary loved to bake and cook and she enjoyed her garden. Mary was a loving and caring wife and mother and she adored her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joe Sanchez, and her sisters, Georgia Sanchez, Annie Romero, and Erminda Sanchez. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Sotero T. Chaves of Socorro; her devoted son, Tony Chaves and wife Jeri; her loving daughters, Stella Chaves; Yolanda Ortiz and husband, Art; and Denise Hurlbirt and husband, John; eight loving grandchildren, Stephanie; Lori; Ruben; Rebecca; Tony; Lisa; Laura; and Kristin; twelve great grandchildren; her brother, Henry Sanchez and wife, Amy; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Socorro, NM with Pastor Bob Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Socorro Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Tony Ortiz, Ruben Perez, Jacob Ortiz, Christopher Ortiz, Justin Major, and Jon Major. Honorary Pallbearers are: Alix Ferreira, Art Ortiz, and John Hurlbirt.
