Mary Chavez, age 96, of Lubbock, Texas, (previously of Albuquerque) passed away March 18th, 2021 peacefully at her residence.
She was born August 18, 1924, in Los Angeles, daughter of the late Juan and Ophelia Lopez. Raised by her grandmother, Romola Garcia, since she was 9 months old; Mary grew up in Albuquerque, NM where she went on to meet the love of her life, Joseph Chavez, after he dialed the wrong number at her workplace. They were married for 48 years before he died in 1990.
Predeceased in death by her Father, Mother, Husband, Daughter Josie Mosby, and Brothers Max and Leopoldo.
Beloved Nunnie to 9 grandchildren; Annette (Bob) Turnis, Raymond Jr. (Brenda) Romero, Alex (Patsy) Romero, Michael Romero, Kathy (Robert) Baca, Jackie (Janet) Romero, Donnie Romero, Renee Martinez and Danion Mosby. 17 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great granddaughter.
Mary loved to travel. Among her most memorable trips: visiting the Pope in Rome, throwing coins in an Italian fountain, a coast to coast U.S. road trip, and sightseeing through 9 countries in Europe.
She enjoyed watching westerns, golf, and her beloved telenovela’s. You could find her daily on her exercise bike reading her bible, like the devoted catholic she was.
Mary will be buried at next to her beloved husband Joseph Chavez.
