Mary Elizabeth Gilfillan

June 5, 1914 — October 4, 2014

Mary Elizabeth Gilfillan went to be with Jesus on Saturday morning, October 4th in Edgewood, New Mexico. She had celebrated her centennial birthday on June 5th of this year.  She is survived by her daughter Nancy Elizabeth Riley; granddaughter, Dale Cara Canner, Grand son-in-law Marc Thomas Canner of Spokane, WA; three great grandchildren, Aleksandre Canner and his wife Audrey of Hawaii; Wesley Andrew Canner of South Carolina and Rachel Elizabeth Canner of South Carolina; two great great grandsons, Lucas Gabriel  and Judah Aleksandre of Hawaii.  Nieces Diana Landes and her husband, Robert of Grand Junction  CO, Susan Locke of PA Beverly and husband Harry of PA, Linda Wiest; nephews Carroll Davis of PA, Barry Griffith of King of Prussia, PA, Richard Gilfillan of Gap, PA and many great nieces and nephews.  

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 yrs, Clarence Andrew Gilfillan  four sisters and two brothers, parents Herbert Dewees and Anna Mae Hardy Dewees.  

Mary was a registered nurse her whole life having graduated from Bryn Mawr Nursing School in Pa, serving her student days at Montgomery County Hospital and Children's Hospital in Philadelphia.  After moving to Tucson, AZ she worked at Tucson Medical Center (1946-1950) and then moved to Albuquerque working at Bataan Memorial Methodist Hospital and Lovelace Medical Center and doing private duty nursing for more years.

Her best qualities were her compassion and concern for hurting or sick people, her loyalty and devotion to her family, her unending patience, and her ability to never take comments personally and her wonderful work ethic. W.hen people met her they wanted to know more about her and listened to her stories about  life
