KOCINA, MARY CECELIA Age 105, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, May 16, 2013. She was born on October 10, 1907, to Anton and Mary Bruckner in Colon, NE. Mary was the second eldest of six children. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kocina, in Colorado Springs, CO; brothers, Adolph and Louis; sisters, Sophye McKinney and Dorothy Thege. She is survived by her sister, Adeline Ludi of Wahoo, NE; nieces, Nancy Gilmore and Judy Tully of Rio Rancho, NM; numerous nieces and nephews of several generations. Mary was loved by all who knew her as a caring and witty personality. She lived independently until she was 100 years old and celebrated that milestone with many friends from near and far. She celebrated her 105th birthday last October, 2012, surrounded by her friends and caregivers at St. Theresa Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Albuquerque, NM. An especially arranged visit by television weatherman, Steve Stucker, was the highlight of the celebration. Mary told him, "I know you...I watch you everyday on TV." And she said later, "That was the best birthday I've ever had." A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, May 24, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Inurnment will take place in Colorado Springs, CO.
