Mary Miranda, age 89, a loving mom and grandma and beautiful devoted wife has left this world to join our Holy Father in Heaven on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. She was surrounded by her loving family in her home, as she took her last breath.
Mary was born on September 15, 1930 in Ancho, a small railroad town in southern New Mexico. She attended Carrizozo High school and met the love of her life, Ernesto Miranda. They fell in love and married on June 28, 1947. Shortly after they moved to Alamogordo, where they raised their children. After Ernesto retired they moved to Belen for fifteen years and then on to Albuquerque. She was a very loving and caring wife to Ernesto for nearly 73 years. The last 10 years she was especially devoted to him after he had suffered a stroke. Although this was part of her normal routine, she always made sure he had his hot coffee and hot meal in front of him as soon as he sat down at the dinner table. She was always so concerned and worried about him. Although she had her own ailments; she was never one to complain.
She was brought up in the Catholic faith and carried that on to her own children. She was always praying, asking the Lord to take care of her family. She had one younger sister, Priscilla that she loved and enjoyed spending time with. They would take turns calling each other on the weekends and talked for hours and hours. She loved dancing and loved to listen to New Mexico music. Oh and the casino... she loved the casino. That was one place she was like a kid again. She would always tell Ernesto that she was ahead even though sometimes she wasn’t. She would bang on the slot machines as if she thought that it would bring her luck. When she was diagnosed with dementia four years ago she still wanted to go to the casino, that was her only getaway that she thoroughly enjoyed.
As a mom, she was also very loving and caring. She never wanted us to leave even though we were with her all day. She enjoyed cooking and baking her delicious pies and cookies and stacks of fresh tortillas. She always made sure we all had plenty to eat. She loved playing cards and gambling with her kids and grandkids, even though she wanted us to always win. She sacrificed so much for her children. Always putting everyone else’s needs before her own.
As a grandma, she loved her grandkids. They brought her so much joy and happiness when they would come over and visit. Her eyes would light up and had a smile from ear to ear. She had so much love for them. I know she enjoyed spoiling them and always smothering them with big hugs and kisses..
Although we know she is resting with our Heavenly Father. We will miss her tremendously. We have been blessed with this unbelievably beautiful woman, as a mom, grandma, wife and sister. She will always have a special place in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ambercare hospice, especially Sahar, Janelle, Pavia, Jazmine and Roberto for their kindness, love and tremendous support.
