Mary Lou Mock was born Mary Lou Talmadge on August 23, 1928, to Sylvan and Catalina Talmadge of Greeley, Colorado, and peacefully passed away on December 23, 2024, at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounded by her family and loved ones. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend, Mary Lou lived a life full of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those who she cherished.
Mary Lou grew up with a deep appreciation for family and community. She attended Gibson Elementary up until the 6th grade. She was then employed as a waitress for the Midwest Café and the Home Dairy Café during her teen years. She then married James Leo Mock on June 8, 1948, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with whom they shared 45 beautiful years of marriage together, having 7 children, and creating a loving home filled with warmth, laughter and countless memories.
Mary Lou was a stay-at-home mother, where she loved cooking for her friends and family, and she always looked forward to cooking for any family functions. She loved going to the casino to play the penny slots, and enjoyed playing Yahtzee and Rummy with her children. All of Mary Lou’s children and grandchildren will always remember her when they see a box of chocolate covered cherries. It was always a tradition for her to give them out for Christmas to those that she loved.
Mary Lou was proceeded in death by her estranged husband James Leo Mock, her parents Sylvan and Catalina Talmadge, brothers Raymond and Sylvan Jr. Talmadge, sister Carmelita Talmadge, grandsons Gustavo Gomez, and Christian Mock, great grandsons Kyle and Kameron Madrid, and great granddaughter Anaya Dixon, and son-in-law John Mata.
Mary Lou is survived by her 2 sisters, Helen Hanson, and Cleo Sierra, 7 children, Priscilla Madrid, Jim Raymond Mock (Jeannie), Carolyn Mock-Iverson (David), Michael Mock (Norma), Donna Mata, Carmen Giron (Joe), Kathy Esquibel (Moses), her 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Baca, Daniel Mock, Thomas James Martinez, Aaron Martinez, Amber Mock, Natalie Silva, Micheal Allen Mock, Shelly Ellerby, Adam Mock, Makhaila Esquibel, April Mock, Tony Mock, Jordan Morales, Brandon Morales, Brian Madrid, and Shannan Vigil, her 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as her favorite dog and best friend Jubilee.
The Mock Family would like to share a special “Thank You,” to the Esquibel Family, Kathy, Moses, & Makhaila for caring for our mother all these years. She loved you all so much and didn’t want to be anywhere else in the world. Thank you for allowing our mother’s wishes to be fulfilled by passing away peacefully in her own home.
Mary Lou Mock’s legacy is one of love, strength, and an unyielding commitment to her family and loved ones. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
