Maureen J. Martinez

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Maureen J. Martinez on February 26, 2025.

Maureen was born on October 5, 1944, in Norwich, England. She married Carlos Martinez on August 29, 1964, in England, and they moved to the United States. Together, they raised four beautiful children, initially living in Colorado before eventually settling in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Maureen is survived by her devoted husband, Carlos Martinez; her children, Angela Day, Carlene Martinez, John (Lisa) Martinez, and Lisa (Troy) Miller; her grandchildren, Anna (Roger) Madrid, Christal (Mohamed) Ahmed, Michael (Katherina) Day, Tamara (Jacob) Johnson, and Jonathan (Alix) Martinez; as well as 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Phyllis Simmonds; her sister, Valerie Simmonds; and her brother, Brian Simmonds.

Maureen was known for her strength, wisdom, kind heart, and inner beauty. She always put her family first and was never a stranger to anyone. Her hobbies included swimming, crafting, sewing, and knitting (with knitting needles often in hand). Throughout their 60 years of marriage, Maureen and Carlos enjoyed traveling, visiting England to reconnect with her family and exploring many surrounding countries.

Maureen deeply appreciated and respected all religions and cultures, which contributed to her fun, adventurous, and vibrant personality. She had a tender heart for all children and those in need. Maureen was an active member of the CHAT Club, where she helped make and donate hats, scarves, mittens, and other items for children in need. She also volunteered at the St. Felix Pantry for many years, serving those in need. Additionally, Maureen continued the legacy of giving by contributing to St. Joseph's Indian School, a cause she took over from our beloved Anna Martinez.

To our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend: we celebrate your amazing life and thank God for the time we had together on this earth. You have touched the hearts and lives of so many, and you will be dearly missed. We love you, and may peace be with you always.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 14, at San Ysidro Catholic Church, 5015 Corrales Rd, Corrales, NM 87048.
