Melvin "Mel" Howard Wolters, age 81, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020. He was born January 16, 1939 to Melvin Wolters and Geneva Beare Wolters in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He graduated from Logansport High School, Logansport, Indiana in 1957 and went on to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1st Class for 7 and a half years and was honorably discharged in 1967. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Becker, on November 10, 1967 and was married 52 years. He was employed as a telecommunications equipment installer for Western Electric-AT&T-Lucent Technologies for 35 years and was a member of Communications Workers of America. He installed some of the first equipment for mobile phone service in the USA. He worked on cell sites in South Korea, Taiwan and Dominican Republic. Mel was the perfect example of a "bibliophile" - a person who collects or has a great love of books. He was an avid reader of Detective mysteries, usually more than a 100 books a year, and acquired an extensive collection of: Sherlock Holmes by Author Conan Doyle, The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, Harry Potter by JK Rowling and the History of WWII. He also loved fly fishing, bird watching and The Steeler's Football team. He was an accomplished dart player. His favorite quotations were "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us" JRR Tolkien and "To the well-organized mind... death is but the next great adventure" Albus Dumbledore-Harry Potter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Geneva Wolters and brother, Hugh Lee Wolters.
Mel is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Wolters; son, Brian Adam Wolters of Cabot, AR; daughter, Melanie Lynn Sefcik of Rio Rancho, NM; sisters, Ann Wallace of Royal Center, IN. June Eldridge of Joplin, MO; grandchildren, Marisa Albarella of Miami, FL, Maria Albarella Stivers of Fayetteville, AR, Nickolas Ty Sefcik of Cabot, AR, Addisyn Grace Wolters of Cabot AR, Leighkin Polovine of Conway, AR; great-grandchild, Steiner Polovino of Conway AR.
Services will be Tuesday, February 11, 2020, 2:00 PM, Daniels Family Funeral Services ~ Sara Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho, NM 87124. Interment to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park.
