Melissa Crosby was born on March 5, 1940 in Stonewall, Oklahoma to Joe and Grace Johnson. After graduating from high school at age 17, she moved to Los Angeles, CA to live with her sister, Gladys. After a short time, she met Hobert Crosby at church and they begin dating. On September 19, 1959, they married. To this union 2 children were born, Darlyne and Herbert. The family lived for many years in Los Angeles before moving to the east coast where Herb continued his professional career. The family moved back to Los Angeles in 1978. After years of raising her family and being a devoted full-time Mom, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of being a nurse. She has been a registered nurse for more than 30 years. Because of her natural sense of compassion and caring, this profession suited her perfectly. She loved to take care of those in need. After a move to New Mexico in 1986, she continued to work as a nurse and began to take traveling nursing assignments. She really enjoyed those assignments because she was able to travel and see all parts of the country. Her nursing assignments have taken her all over California, as well as to San Antonio, TX and Olympia, WA. In 1992, she was blessed with the birth of her only grandchild, Kelsea Melissa. She got such joy in the personal interactions she had with Kelsea. Melissa loved the Lord and made sure she let His light shine through her in everything she did. Melissa was called home from labor to reward on April 29, 2014. She leaves to mourn her husband of 55 years, Herb; a daughter, Darlyne; son, Herbert; son-in-law, Ron; granddaughter, Kelsea; 2 sisters, Gladys and Hellen; 1 brother, Terry, 3 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-laws and their wives; dozens of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends. Because of the caring and tender daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend that she was, Melissa will be sorely missed. But greater than the sorrow we feel from her passing is the joy that she spread in her life. Her wisdom, love and compassion and the beautiful, sweet memories of her are a blessing to us all will continue to guide us throughout our lives.
