Michael �Mickey� Chavez 1954-2014 Michael �Mickey� Chavez, age 59, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2014 with family at his bedside. Mickey fought valiantly but succumbed to complicated internal medical issues. Mickey worked in the grocery and bar business for much of his adult life, and made and sold beef jerky as a side business for several years. Born on December 13, 1954, he became an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan at a young age and would faithfully watch them every Sunday during the fall and winter months. Spring and summer would find him at Isotopes Ball Park watching the game and eating a hot dog, normally with family members to include his sister Catherine and brother Gilbert. Some of Mickey�s other favorite pastimes were watching movies and listening to good music, preferably Classic Rock. His favorites were the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Chicago, to name a few. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Claudio and Esperanza (Hope) Chavez; Sister Anna Marie Marshall; brothers Sonny Chavez, Joe Chavez, Leo Chavez, and Paul Chavez. He leaves behind his sisters, Alice Chavez, Sadie Kleinstiver (Harv), and Catherine Benavidez (John). He is also survived by brothers Fred Chavez and Gilbert Chavez. Also surviving him are several sisters in law; Joan Chavez, Linda Chavez, and Mary Chavez, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A Catholic Rosary will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 412 Stover Ave. SW, on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 7:00 PM. A Celebration Mass will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM, also at Sacred Heart Church. Rev. Stephen Imbarrato will officiate. Interment will take place immediately following Mass at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE.
