Age 54, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in Trenton, NJ on March 24, 1962 to Salvator and Pasqualina Orteca DeMaria. Michael graduated from Steinert High School in Hamilton, NJ. He was a professional chef specializing in Northern Italian Cuisine. He relocated to Magdalena, NM 8 years ago. Michael loved his animals, cooking with friends and family, fishing and rock 'n' roll. He also held a special place in his heart for his Blue Heeler, Sophia. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Michael is survived by his devoted sister, Catherine DeMaria; sister-in-law, Athena Gassoumis; niece, Makeyen DeMaria-Gassoumis and her fiance' James Burke; cousins, Nick and Ann Marie Lieto, Salvatore Toramino, Maria and Joseph Lippy and Michael Orteca. The Holy Rosary to be recited on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 8:30 am at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 204 Elm St., Magdalena, NM. Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9:00 am. Celebrant Father John Anasiudu. Burial will take place at Magdalena Cemetery following service.
