Michael David Oscar Neidigk
Another super hero is soaring with the angels! Michael David Oscar Neidigk, “Mikey,” left the loving arms of his family and for the warm embrace of his Savior, Jesus, October 8, 2020. Mikey, born May 9, 2015 in Rio Rancho, NM, valiantly fought leukemia for three years. In this life, Mikey enjoyed playing with Legos, superhero toys, and Transformers. He identified with superheroes because they, like him, are strong fighters who inspired him to never give up.
Not only is Mikey a superhero, but so is the army of relatives and friends who were there for him and his family throughout his long battle with cancer. They cannot be thanked enough. His sister Elly was especially close to Mikey and was remarkably patient and understanding. She is another amazing superhero.
Mikey had a sense of humor and bright smile that captivated his family, friends and hospital staff. An intelligent little boy, he had begun learning math and writing in his home school classroom. During summer a year ago, he got to participate in soccer. Recent joys for Mikey and his family were his official adoption by Cameron, and the arrival of the Make-a-Wish puppy, Archie, delivered to his home in September by Spider Man and Star Wars characters at the end of a long drive-by parade. Childlike faith is commended by Jesus, and Mikey definitely had it. When he learned his cancer was back, he said, “It’s ok. God’s on my team. We’ll get through this together.”
Mikey is survived by his parents Nathan and Cameron (Montefu) Neidigk, and sister Elizabeth (Elly), grandparents Donald and Kathryn Neidigk, Gary and Glenda Schaefer, Lawrence (Larry) and Karen Montefu. Great grandparents are Leroy and Gladys Beusch, Ben and Jean Beisel, Paulette Schaefer, and Carol Engel. Uncles and aunts include Matthew and Valerie Neidigk, Stephen and Nicole Neidigk, Mike and Heather Peterson, Lindsay and Jeremy Barker, and Bryce and Devyn Berro. There are many great uncles, aunts and cousins. Preceding Mikey in death are his birth mother April Lind (Schaefer) Neidigk, and recently his great grandmother, Rhoda Neidigk.
It is difficult to imagine life without Mikey who gave so many people joy and inspiration. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Children’s Cancer Fund of New Mexico, Brent’s Place (in Aurora, CO) or Make-a-Wish New Mexico.
His grandfather, Donald Neidigk, is collecting new Lego sets, Super Hero Toys, and Transformers for Presbyterian Hospital’s Pediatric Oncology unit and their Pediatric Infusion Center. These will be placed in Mikey’s Strong Box at Presbyterian and given to children fighting cancer.
