Michael (Popeye) Vaughn Evans

Michael Vaughn Evans (Popeye) passed away peacefully at his home on May 5, 2017. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on August 24, 1946 to Kenneth and Cecelia Evans. He is a graduate of the Sandia High School class of 1964. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from the military as a Chief Petty Officer and went on to serve with the Department of Corrections for the state of New Mexico where he retired as a Captain after 18 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son Justin; older brother Clayton; niece Lindsey, and nephew Stephen. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jody and his best friend and dog, Shadow. Also survived by his sister Terilee Lopez and family, Gina, Randy and family, sister-in-law Fran Evans and family, and four grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico or the Freedom Riders of New Mexico. Services have already been held at Daniels Family Funeral Services.
