Michael D. Wood, born on February 16, 1967 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, peacefully passed away on September 16, 2024 in his hometown. Michael was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, remarkable contributions in the field of communications and his passions outside of work enriched the lives of those around him.
Michael's professional was characterized by an unwavering fascination with technology and communication. Early in his career, he began his path at Radio Shack, where his extensive knowledge of electronic components set the stage for future accomplishments. By his twenties, he had successfully built two television stations in Corpus Christi, Texas, showcasing his exceptional talent and ingenuity. Later, his career took a turn toward the medical industry, where he worked with a Medical Supply company focusing on electric wheelchairs. For the last 20 years, he dedicated his expertise to the Department of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories, making significant contributions to the field that will be long remembered.
A self-taught individual with a curious mind, Michael graduated from Valley High School in 1985. His educational journey was unique, as he relied on his innate talents and informal education, which fostered his deep understanding of the complexities of technology.
Outside of his professional life, Michael embraced numerous hobbies and interests. A passionate short-wave HAM radio operator, he delighted in the wonders of space travel, fueled by the joys of NASA's missions and the enchantment of astronauts. He was also an avid camper and cherished playing his bass guitar in his church worship band, finding fulfillment in both nature and music.
Michael's legacy lives on through his devoted wife of 35 years, Donna Wood. He is also survived by his three children: son, Bradley (Makayla) Wood, and daughters, Aubrey and Markley Wood. His loving parents, David and Linda Wood, his brother, Darren (Kristen) Wood, and his niece, Caroline Wood, cherish his memory. Additionally, Michael is remembered by his father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Dori Chappell. His loyal beagle, Indiana, remained by his side throughout his life, testifying to Michael's loving nature.
Michael is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, including Willard D. Wood and Clara Schaper Wood, and Louis C. Neely and Lucille Nance Neely.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Michael on September 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, located at 3906 19th Ave SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
Michael's life was a testament to his dedication, talent, and love for both technology and family. He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched throughout his journey.
