Miguel "Mike" Jaquez, 90, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, in Farmington. He was born March 18, 1918, in Gallina to Carmen and Amelia Jaquez. Mike was a lifelong resident of New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific in WWII as a rifleman, achieving the rank of corporal. He received a Presidential citation, a good conduct ribbon, American defense ribbon, victory ribbon, Philippine liberation ribbon with one Bronze Star, Asian Pacific Theater ribbon, Bronze campaign Star and Purple Heart. Mike loved nature and animals. He was a member of the NRA, the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Viola Jaquez; son, Michael Jaquez; and daughter, Gloria Day and husband, Lynn. He also is survived by grandchildren, Michael Hatley, Kelly Howell and husband, Jeremy, and Jessica Day and fiance, Dustin Noyes; by great-grandchildren, Zacary and Brandon Howell; and by sisters, Josie Vigil and Delmedia Velasquez. Pallbearers are Dustin Noyes, Lynn Day, Michael Hatley, Max Maestas, Tommy Montoya, Joe Jaquez and David Velasquez. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Rivera, Michael Jaquez and all Mike's nephews.
