Mike Schropp

Mike Schropp Oct. 1, 1950 - May 8, 2011 Mike Schropp, 60, of Aztec, died on Sunday, May 8, 2011, in Aztec. He was born Oct. 1, 1950, in Albuquerque, to Charlie and Rose Schropp. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1968. In 1971, he joined Insulators Local No. 76. He worked all over the United States with his best friends and his brother, John Schropp. Mike and Marcia Baker were married in 1981. They had two children, Marshall and Melanie. For many years, Mike raced super modified race cars at Aztec Speedway, Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz., and at the Raceway in Albuquerque. He also enjoyed playing catcher for the Farmington Insulation softball team. Mike loved music and played a mean guitar. He loved jam sessions in the backyard the most. Camping and fishing with friends and family were also a big part of his life. For Mike, a week at the lake was hard to beat, but most importantly, he loved his family and was a great dad not just to his own kids, but many others, too. We will miss him terribly. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John Schropp. He is survived by his partner, Marcia Robin; son, Marshall Schropp; daughter, Melanie Schropp; sister, Joyce Whaley; and one grandchild. A party to celebrate Mike's life will be at noon Sunday, May 22, at the Schropp home. Honorary pallbearers are Marshall Schropp, Zach Goar, Allen Mason, Jimmy Southern, Donny Brown and Greg vanCleve.
