Miles John Fisher was taken from us suddenly on January 24, 2024. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on November 23, 1965, and was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Elizabeth and brother Paul Fisher. He is survived by his sister Carie McCann, niece Linnea McCann, his Uncle Marcel and Aunt Arlene Ralbovsky, as well as his wife of more than 27 years Lora Smalley, and their son Kieran (Key) Fisher. He would often laugh that he also had gotten lucky with his mother-in-law Amara Heising who lived with them and who he loved and shared a deep spiritual connection with.
He was a bright spot in so many lives, having been very active in the local music (guitar, lead vocals, backing vocals and sound) community, including currently playing in 3 bands, and working on a 4th music project. He also loved aircraft, working on them as a professional airframe and powerplant mechanic at Aeroparts for many years, and flew radio-controlled helicopters, gliders, and planes in his free time.
Miles served honorably in the Army during the late 1980’s and into the early 1990’s, having been stationed in Germany, during which he fell in love with the culture and people of the country. He was able to travel extensively during this time. Years later, he returned to Germany with his wife to work as a contractor during the early part of the OIF/OEF conflict; he supported the army mission with his skills as an aircraft mechanic. It was during this time that they had their one child Kieran Fisher.
He was well known among the flea market and estate sales community for his love of musical instruments that he would often fix and sell, after playing with some of them on stage. Miles was recognized for his extensive knowledge of sound equipment and technical support for live bands. He was loved for his playing, and the energy he brought to his live performances; he was often seen running off stage to mix with the audience, never losing his energetic nature. Miles was almost always smiling, with a sunny energy and can-do attitude that was known to all. He adored his pets and was kind to all creatures, often noticed removing frogs and snakes from the road to prevent even the smallest animal’s loss of life.
He will have his funeral Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at 10:30. It will take place in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, on Sara Rd. Rio Rancho. He will have military honors after the funeral and before the reception, taking place at the same complex.
