Miriam Malm

Malm, Miriam Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, September 16, 2013, the day after her 87th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack S. Malm; and her parents, Karl and Miriam Pitschner. Miriam is survived by loving children, Judy Dopson and husband Roger, Joseph Malm and wife Svetlana, John Malm and wife Barbara and Jack M. Malm; her grandchildren, Jake Dopson and wife Nicole, Cecily Tasker and husband Phil, Jeremy, Christopher, Amber and Jordan Malm; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Madlyn Dopson. Miriam moved to New Mexico with her parents in the early 1930's. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. Miriam met her husband Jack at the Lobo Theater where he was an usher. They married in 1947 in Albuquerque and lived here ever since. After ten years as a stay at home mom, Miriam returned to UNM to pursue a Masters degree in Chemistry. She then taught chemistry at UNM for 26 years, during this time she wrote and published a book "Fundamentals of Organic and Biochemistry." Miriam was the secretary for the International Society of Heterocyclic Chemistry and traveled to various meetings worldwide. She retired in 1988. Miriam and Jack enjoyed working on their home in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque and their cabin in Pecos, NM. They took numerous trips throughout the United States and Mexico, as well as several cruises. Miriam loved working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She had just completed her 374th jigsaw puzzle on September 14, 2013. Miriam was a fiercely strong woman who loved her family very much and always wanted to be in charge. We will all miss her. Mizpah. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, 9420 Fourth St. NW, Albuquerque. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Casket Bearers will be John Malm, Joe Malm, Jack Malm, Jake Dopson and Jordan Malm. At the family's request, In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made in Miriam's honor to Animal Humane Society in Albuquerque.
