“What the caterpillar perceives as the end; to the butterfly it is just the beginning.” Monica Maria Montoya was called home to heaven on Sunday, May 3, 2015. She was born on August 27, 1983 to Fermin “Goosie” and Michelle Annette Montoya at Kirtland Air Force Base Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. She graduated from Santa Fe High School and worked as a teachers aid as well as in the hospitality industry. She enjoyed singing, dancing, cooking, painting and making people laugh! Her pride and joy was her amazingly beautiful unforgettable and talented daughter Arianna Monique Merendon. Monica and Arianna loved to dance and sing together and had the strongest bond a mother and daughter could have. Monica was preceded in death by her grandparents Maria & Joe Montoya and grandfather Kenith R. Cook and favorite Aunt Geralyn T. Cook. Monica is survived by her eleven year old Daughter, Arianna Monique Merendon; Fiance Daniel Valencia; Parents Michelle & Fermin Montoya; Grandparents Maria & Stormy Stucker; Sisters Julianna, Jennie & Jessica Montoya; Brother in laws Juan Chavez and Ozzie Kalil; her new baby Nephew Elliot Jax Chavez. In addition, several loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers will be Mary Esther Roveda, Becca Rosales, Teddy Rosales, Paul Reyes, Uncle Mando Reyes, and David Garcia. Services: Viewing at 6:00pm and a Rosary will be recited in honor of Monica at 7:00pm on Friday, May 8th at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Carlisle Chapel located at 3113 Carlisle Blvd. Viewing on Saturday May 9, 2015 from 7:30-8:30am and a Rosary will be recited by Monica’s Godmother Patricia Reyes at 8:30am. Mass at 9:00am at Holy Family Church located at 562 Atrisco Dr SW. Interment immediately following at Mount Calvary cemetery. Please join the family for a reception held at 12 noon at Holy Family Church. When saying good-bye to Monica she would often enthusiastically say, “Keep it Real! Word to your Motha!".
