Nancy Loraine Croxton

August 25, 1930 — April 26, 2017

Croxton, Nancy Loraine
Nancy Croxton passed away April 26, 2017. She was 86 years old.

Above everything else she accomplished in her life, she would most like to be remembered as a teacher.

She started her career teaching in a one room school in rural Michigan.

After moving to New Mexico, she became a Title 1 Reading Teacher in Albuquerque. In 1965 she wrote a song she named Albuquerque: "I live in a city of sunshine, with climate so healthful and dry. The desert is west of the river; the mountains reach up to the sky. Albuquerque, Albuquerque! A city in New Mexico. The state is the Land of Enchantment, the city the best that I know! "

After working for APS 20 years, she tried to retire, but she found her greatest fulfillment teaching. She was hired to teach on an Indian Reservation at To'hajiillee for 15 years, and gained the respect of both parents and children.

To be closer to home she took a job at a daycare. It was a source of pride that many of her young charges started kindergarten reading at second grade level.

Nancy finished her career teaching at a charter school. At 80 years old, health issues forced her to give up her life's work. Not everyone can look back at the end of their life and know that they made a difference in the world, but Nancy did. She was a teacher.

She is survived by two sisters, Martha Johnson and Kathleen Marshall. Also, her four children: Kathy Gardner, David Croxton, Becky Witte, Robert Croxton. She is preceded in death by Walter Dowell, Rhea Dowell and Charles Dowell.
