Nancy Liane Robinson rejoined her beloved twin sister in heaven November 15, 2017.
Nancy Liane Cook and her twin sister Joanie Diane Cook were born August 23, 1034 in Loveland, Colorado, the daughter of Carlton and Elizabeth Loomis Cook. Nancy and her family moved to Gallup, New Mexico during World War II so that Elizabeth could work at Fort Wingate while Carlton served in the Navy. After the war, the Cooks moved to Albuquerque. From an early age, Nancy developed a fondness for animals and dreamt of life on a ranch.
Nancy and Joanie were graduates of Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. While at the University of New Mexico, Nancy met Alan Robinson. Alan and Nancy were married in 1959 and lived briefly in Hatch before moving to Pine Lawn in Catron County. In 1961 the couple moved to Apache Creek and established the Apache Angus Ranch. After becoming settled and enjoying the ranch life, their son, Geordie was born.
Nancy realized her dream to become the owner of a ranch, rode horses, raised Angus cattle, sheep and poultry, trained border collies, and was well known for her cooking, gardening, canning and veterinary capabilities. She was also an accomplished artist. Her early artistic talents covered a wide spectrum of media including mosaic tile, watercolors, basket weaving, leatherwork, sewing, needlepoint, and knitting. Later in life, Nancy became an expert in 'sheep to shawl' --the artistic process that covers the full spectrum of raising the sheep, shearing the wool, washing and picking, dying, carding, spinning, and finally knitting or weaving it into a useful and beautiful item.
Nancy served the community through volunteering her time to lead 4H clubs, the County Historical Society, and was elected to serve on the Reserve School Board. Nancy promoted the study and use of native plants for medicinal practical use and was a founding member of the Mary Orr Russell Herb Club.
She was a Good Shepherd to her sheep, her family, arts and crafts, and to the local community.
Her sister, Joanie, preceded Nancy in death. Her husband, Alan; son Geordie, his wife Kristine and two grandchildren, Grace and Oliver survive her.
A service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Apache Creek Fire House.
