Nora Ortega of Las Gallinas, NM was born on November 24, 1954 and called to be with Our Lord on January 29, 2021 after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Nora was a Graduate of Robertson High School. She was a lifelong Catholic and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents Lorenzo and Emilia Ortega, maternal grandparents Francisco and Julianita Padilla and paternal grandparents Candido and Florencia Ortega. She is survived by her brother Melvin Ortega and wife Yolanda, sister Henrietta Trujillo and husband Jerry, nephews Aaron Trujillo, Mark Ortega and wife Irene, nieces Anna Trujillo and partner Harmony, Michelle Ortega and wife Ida, great-nieces Emilia Trujillo and Kimber Ortega, goddaughters Renee Baca, Rhyanne Martinez, Sally (Sarah) Sanchez, Alicia Carrillo and godson Matthew Lopez, uncle Robert Padilla and wife Petra, aunt Lilly Sanchez and many dearly loved cousins. Although Nora was never married and did not have children of her own, she was a mother, aunt, friend, and mentor to so many. Nora was a dedicated employee of Southwest Capital Bank (formerly Bank of Las Vegas) for over forty years. Through her work she was an integral part of her community and was known and cherished by virtually everyone in the city of Las Vegas and by so many in the surrounding areas. She enjoyed taking walks in the mountains, spending time at her home in Gallinas, horseback riding, spending time with her family, cloud watching, and supporting those she cared about the most. Her most cherished moments consisted of following her nephews, nieces, godchildren, cousins and friends throughout New Mexico and beyond to support them at any event they were participating in and at any special occasion they were celebrating. As she shared in her last few days of life, she was their “loudest and proudest cheerleader”. When her babies (Emi and Kimber) were born, her heart was fulfilled and it was one of the happiest times of her life. She was a selfless person who touched so many lives with her smile, heartfelt advice, and compassion. To her family she was their strength, their protector, and an example of such unconditional love. All who were blessed to know her will miss her dearly and she will forever be in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ambercare who helped the family care for Nora during her last days and for all those family and friends who shared their hearts and prayers during this time. We ask that all who wish to share condolences, stories, and memories please do so at the Daniels Family Funeral Home, Sara Road in Rio Rancho, NM, website at: danielsfuneral.com
