Norman "Norm" Duchon

November 29, 1939 — September 6, 2015

Duchon, Norman
In the early morning hours of September 6, 2015, Norm passed away from natural causes, in the comfort of his home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Norm was 75 years old.  Norman Duchon was born in Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio on November 29, 1939. He was the second of three children, and the only son to Tillie (Bleumenthal) Duchon and Abraham Duchon. Norm joined the United States Air Force in 1958 where he was able to fulfill his passion for flying and becoming a pilot. As a young man, Norman was always enamored with airplanes, and would have done just about anything he could to get up in the air.  He flew planes both inter continentally and locally for as long as he could. When Norm could no longer fly he dedicated himself to his family life. Norm’s active life kept him from having any shortage of friends or family. Every day with Norman was another story heard about his life’s journeys; an undeniably envious feat of life which he shared with anyone who would listen. Norm was exceedingly fond of the animals that kept him company. As his children became adults, Norman would unabashedly refer to his beloved dogs as his “children,” in a simple attempt to offer them the love that he had gained from them in their unfailing loyalty. Norm was preceded in death by his older sister Rosalind (Duchon) Benson and both of his parents, Tillie and Abraham Duchon. Norm is survived by spouse Rebecca A (Kapferer) Duchon, sister Sheree (Duchon) Fien, sons Denis, Jonathan, Adam and Christopher as well as his grandson and great-grandchildren. High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew -
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
-- John Gillespie Magee, Jr

The moment that you left me,
My heart was split in two,
One side was filled with memories,
The other side died with you
I often lay awake at night when the world is fast asleep
And take a walk down memory lane with tears upon my cheek.
Remembering you is easy I do it every day,
But missing you is a heartache that will never go away.
I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will stay
You see life has gone on without you,
But will never be the same
A mile of highway will take you just one mile…
But a mile of runway will take you anywhere.
