Orville “Jay” Carr, born July 5, 1930 and a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 5, 2023.
Jay is preceded in death by his wife, Terry Carr, and son, Bradley Jay Carr. He is survived by his daughter
Rene’ Horvath and his son Robert Carr, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other relatives
and friends.
Jay was born and raised in Oklahoma City during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl days. He later
moved to Roswell, New Mexico with his wife to raise their family. The family moved to Albuquerque in
1966 following the closure of Walker Air Force Base. His diverse career spanned decades, from fighting
forest fires in Idaho, to becoming an Army veteran that served in the Korean War, and establishing his
own real estate business selling homes in Roswell and then in Albuquerque. Jay ultimately retired as a
real estate appraiser.
Jay was fond of cruises, tour bus excursions, and enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Mexico, Canada
and Europe. He enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, and painting landscapes. Later in life he wrote his
autobiography, which he named “Wiseville”, which included the hardships he experienced growing up in
Oklahoma during the depression, to his satisfaction living in the same close-knit neighborhood for over
50 years with people who shared his values and took pride in their families. He will be remembered for
the love of his family and for sharing stories of all his adventures.
