Garcia, Oscar G.

Oscar G. Garcia, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, May

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 66 years, Helen; son Steve and wife Loretta;

Oscar was born the youngest of seven children to Escolastico and Soraida Garcia on
January 4, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Fidel Garcia,
Fabricio (Fred) Garcia, Bernardita Gallegos, Rosendo (Ross) Garcia, Henry Garcia,

He proudly served in two branches of the Armed Forces. He entered in the U.S. Army
in April of 1944 and served over two years primarily in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. From
May of 1951 to February 1953, he was a member of the U.S. Air National Guard
assigned to the Atomic Support Wing at Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. He
was employed at Kirkland Air Force Base and retired after 38 years.

Oscar and Helen were married on July 19, 1950 and made their home in
the North Valley where they were charter members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Oscar’s
passion was his family whom he loved dearly. He let his actions speak louder than his
words and was an outstanding role model to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was very devoted to his Catholic faith and loved God deeply. Over the years, he
served on several groups and committees at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He
enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, golfing, playing cards, Lobo football games, playing
fast-pitch softball, taking walks in the bosque where he lived all his life, and giving the
Dallas fans in his family a hard time about the Cowboys. Oscar loved his family and
enjoyed the many family celebrations over the years.
