Oscar William Hillman

Oscar William Hillman, affectionately known as "Dub", peacefully passed away in Rio Rancho, NM, surrounded by his loving family on December 3, 2023. He was born on December 27, 1927, in Honey Creek, TX.

Oscar led a remarkable life filled with dedication and commitment. He worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1959 to 1990 and was a proud member of the Pipefitters Local 412 for an impressive 70 years. His passion for his work and his expertise were evident to all who knew him.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Oscar valued education. He attended high school at Medina High School in Texas and later at Richmond High School in California, graduating in 1945. He then pursued further education at the Industrial Training Institute in Chicago, IL, where he obtained a degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in 1950.

A true patriot, Oscar served as a Tech 5th Grade of the Army in Japan for one year and was honored with both the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for his service. His dedication to his country was unwavering. Upon return from active duty, Dub married his beloved wife Thelma Nilsson in Medina, Texas in 1949. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in 2023.

Oscar's proudest accomplishments extended beyond his career and military service. He was a respected member of the Masonic Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of A.F.&A.M. of New Mexico Valley Lodge No. 69 in Espanola, NM. His leadership was recognized when he served as Grand Master to the Lodge for one year. Dub also served briefly as the president of the Zia Company Credit Union and 

he found solace and community as a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, NM.

In Oscar's journey through life, he was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Mary Hillman, sisters Hester Ellen Ferguson and Betty Norris, as well as brothers Harvey, John, Dean, and Glen Hillman.

Though Oscar has left this world, he is survived by his beloved wife Thelma Hillman of Rio Rancho, NM; son Gregory Hillman and wife Rebecca of Rio Rancho, NM, son Terry Hillman and wife Deirdre McCormack of Colorado Springs, CO, and son Mark Hillman and wife Nadica of Lyman; SC; sister Jo Lynn DeLonga of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Rebecca and Dylan Hillman and his wife Promise; as well as great-grandchildren Phillip Drum and Rufus Hillman.

A memorial service to celebrate Oscar's life will be held on May 10th at 1:00 PM at the Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Road Chapel in Rio Rancho. The service will be a time to honor the legacy of a truly remarkable individual who touched the lives of many with his kindness and wisdom. May he rest in peace knowing that he will forever be cherished by those who were lucky enough to know him.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a small donation to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
