Age 91, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016.  A retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral and resident of Rio Rancho, NM since 1988. He was born September 10, 1924, in New Orleans, LA to Otho Charles Schumann and Grace Douglas Schumann. He was a graduate of Tulane University and he earned his MBA degree from New York University. He was a navy veteran who served in World War II and the Berlin Recall in the Southwest Pacific during which he rose to command of PC 1138. Doug attained the rank of captain in the navy and a rear admiral in the New York Militia by the time his military career concluded.
During his lifetime, his career primarily was in the area of textiles and importing fresh gourmet foods from around the globe. His employers included: Lane Cotton Mills in New Orleans, Pomona Manufacturing Company in Greensboro, NC, Morgan Cotton Mill in NC, U.S. Rubber-Textile Division of Air Reduction Company in NY, Aberfoyle Manufacturing in NY, Springs Mills in NY, the Milliken Company in NY and Schumann Inter Group.
Doug has extensive memberships in military, professional and civic organizations.  His life memberships include; Military Order of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Naval Institute, Patrol Craft Sailors Association, Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, Reserve Officers Association, Fleet Reserve Association, and Navy League.
Doug also was a member and past president of the Naval Reserve Association Island Chapel NY and Navy League U.S. Rio Grande chapter Members American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, American Association for Textile Technology (AATT), chairman of Knitted Outwear Association, committee chairman of the Carpet and Rug Institute, member American Legion, Kiwanis in which he was distinguished lieutenant governor in District II Southwest division. He also served on the board of directors of the Albuquerque and Rio Rancho Boys and Girls Club, which now bears his and Marie's name.    
While growing up in New Orleans , he was active in Sunday school and in Tulane University Theater and debating society. He traveled extensively in his military and civilian professions.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marie who died August 2003. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Frank Monteleone; his nephews, Lance and Stuart Monteleone and wife Olga: and grandniece, Mary Elizabeth. Doug and wife Marie also established the Rear Admiral O Douglas and Marie Schumann Foundation that helps Rio Rancho students financially attend college or a trade school. A Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2016 from 9:00am to 10:00am at Daniels Family Funeral Services Sara Rd. Chapel, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00am at St. Francis Episcopal Church at 2903 Cabezon Rd. Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
