Chavez, Pat
Age 83, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on July 9, 1931, to Patricio and Carmen (Murphy) Chavez. He was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM who proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps and was a member of the DAV. He was, also a County Marshall, and had retired from Bernalillo County as the Director of Transportation. Pat was a well known Democratic leader of Old Town and a good friend of the late Joseph Montoya. He helped many individuals and families throughout his political career. He owned the Bird of Paradise on Gibson. His hobbies included horse races, making beautiful woodwork creations such as birdhouses and replica churches. He, also enjoyed sitting on the patio reminiscing about the "good ol' days."
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilfred Chavez and brother-in-law, Gerald DeVolk. Pat is survived by wife of 31 years, Rita Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; children, Patrick (Karen) Chavez of San Diego, CA, Sandra (David) Archuleta of Albuquerque, NM, Greg Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, Sonya Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; stepchildren, Antonio Lesperance of Las Vegas, NM, Cecilia (Guillermo) Montanes of Albuquerque, NM, Rita Duran of Mora, NM, Tommy John Casados of Mora, NM; siblings, Margaret DeVolk, Becky Davis, Pauline Griego, Frances Griego, Joe Chavez; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends, including the "McDonald's Gang."
The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church, 2005 N Plaza NW, Albuquerque. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Monday, November 17, 2014, at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church, 2005 N Plaza NW, Albuquerque with Fr. Dennis Garcia, celebrant. Pallbearers will be David Archuleta, Danny Perea, Felipe Rivas, Ricky Griego, James Duran, Melvin Vigil. Inurnment, with military honors will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
