Patricia (Patti) McLain 81, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on February 8, 2017, after an extended illness. Patti was born to Ruby Bradley and Francis Lowman on October 21, 1935, in Abilene, Kansas.
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Patti was preceded in death by two wonderful husbands, her first husband, Robert Lee Quick of 35 years and her second husband, John Phillip McLain of 24 years, and a grandson, Logan Winn.
Patti is survived by her seven children: Deborah (Debi) Silva and husband Matthew, Jim McLain and wife Anna, Dolores (Dodie) Knight and husband John, Kelly McLain Cates and husband John, Robert Lee Quick, Jr. and wife Kathy, Walter McLain and wife Barbara, and Theresa Garcia and husband Michael (Joe), 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Patti loved the game of golf and served one year as president of the Socorro Woman's Golf Association. She was an active member of Socorro's Animal Protective Association (APAS) and also worked at the local animal shelter, where she adopted her two beloved dogs, Merlin and Morgana.
Patti was an avid rock hound and was also an accomplished artist and won several awards for her art. In 2003 she was awarded membership into the National League of American Pen Woman (NLAPW) for her art work. She incorporated her pen and ink drawings into her hobby of rock hounding. Her husband, Phil would slab and polish geodes and Patti would use them as her canvas for drawing a variety of images of wildlife. Her other hobbies were making jewelry and greeting cards.
Patti was employed by New Mexico Tech for 20 years where she held a various positions within the administration, her final position being a Grants and Contracts Analyst. She believed in education and continued hers by taking one class every semester while working. She was an amazing woman and will be missed.
Service will be held at San Miguel Catholic Church, in Socorro, on February 17, 2017, with a Rosary starting at 3:30 pm, followed by the Mass of Resurrection.
Following mass a Celebration of life will be held at the Bodega Burger Company and Lounge.
In lieu of flowers, donations to APAS or the American Cancer Society in her honor would be appreciated.
