MARX, Patricia (Patty) Jean, age 63 passed away in her home in Corrales on Friday, February 18, 2011. Patty was born in Pittsburg, PA on May 4, 1947 to James J and Grace E. Marx. She married Barry M. Garlitz on April 12, 1975 in Dayton, Ohio. Patty received her BA at Seton Hill College in 1969; MS Psychology (Rehabilitation) at West Virginia University (1972); MBA from the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University (1980). Patty was director and assistant dean of handicapped student services at Wright State University where she set the standard for these services across the nation. She then took a position with Monsanto in Dayton, OH as an administrator of government relations and contracts and finally moved to Albuquerque after being Chief Operating Officer at the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute. Patty spent 25 years with her spouse living in the Dayton area and the last 16 years in Corrales, NM. Patty was committed to the San Ysidro Parish where she served as Extraordinary Minister for the church and for the homebound and for her community of Corrales as a member of Compadres de Corrales. Before coming to NM, Patty was a charter member of Sigma Phi, a very successful philanthropic organization that served the Dayton, OH community. Her hobbies included family, friends, fly-fishing and her horses. Patty received numerous awards and achievement but was very proud of being named to the Top Ten Women of the Year in the Dayton area, recognizing the work that she did for that community. Patty lived a very full life and left this world satisfied that she made a difference to those whose lives she touched. . Patty is survived by her husband of 36 years, her five siblings; James J and his wife Mary Alice Marx, Mary Lynne and her husband David Clifford, Dianne E and her husband Gene Lersch, Richard D and his wife Barbara Marx and Joanne L and her husband Thomas Steigerwald. Also, her sister in law, Carla Woodie. Patty also leaves behind, 12 nephews and 6 nieces; 10 grand nephews and 12 grand nieces; and one great grand niece, all of which she took great delight in remembering their special events. The family wishes to acknowledge the kind contributions to all those individuals that helped to ease Patty’s final transition to eternal life. She left this life with the same courage, dedication and wise judgment by which she conducted her time on earth. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 7:00pm at the San Ysidro Catholic Church in Corrales. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 10:00am at San Ysidro Catholic Church in Corrales. Inurnment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. 4310 Sara Road SE.
