Patricia C Sackett

November 29, 1941 — March 14, 2017

Patricia Sackett, of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, March 14th after a long fight against
vascular dementia.
Born in 1941 to Lawrence and Vera Curtin, she was a survivor of childhood polio and a self
proclaimed military brat. After living in Germany and Japan, she attended Texas Women’s
University where she received her teaching degree in 1963. After teaching in Dallas, TX, she
decided to continue her teaching career in Albuquerque in 1965. She met her husband, Paul, on
a blind date and they were married 5 months later in December 1965.
She spent the next 30 years teaching at Sombra Del Monte Elementary, teaching every grade
except kindergarten. She always said that 5th grade was her favorite. She was a tough, but fair,
teacher and loved all her students. She touched many lives.
She enjoyed playing golf, especially being the first one in the family to get a hole in one,
watching old movie musicals, collecting elephants and reading.
Patty is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Paul; daughter Carrie Riddick (Brian) of
Boise, ID; son Brad Sackett (Michon) of Albuquerque; grandchildren Tyler, Matthew, Jade and
Scott; sister Mickey Mangos and brothers Larry Curtin and Jim Ellis. She is preceded in death
by her parents and brother Johnny Ellis.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at LifeSpire Assisted Living in Rio Rancho for
their wonderful care of Patty.
Services will be held on Monday, March 20th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Funeral Home
