Funeral services for Paul Sam, 84, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gallup. Bishop Donald L. Pine will officiate. Burial will be in Santa Fe National Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m., Dec. 2, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sam died Nov. 25, 2010, in Gallup. He was born July 15, 1926, in Breadsprings, into the Towering House People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan. Sam served in the Army and was employed with the railroad, Army Depot as a truck driver and Wingate High School where he retired. He was a member of the Native American Church and Iyanbito Veteran. His hobbies included herding sheep, horse back riding, caring for livestock. Survivors inlclude his wife, Esther Sam of Iyanbito; sons, Calvin Sam, Jerry Sam, both of Iyanbito; daughters, Yvonne Setella of Ogden, Utah, Eva Sam of Tuba City, Latrica Jake of Iyabito; brother, Andy Chone of Gallup; sisters, Irene Skeet, Ella Longhair, both of Breadsprings; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Livingston, Navajo Chone; sons, Jasper Sam, Ricky Sam; daughter, Laura Sam. Pallbearers will be Calvin Sam, Jerry Sam, Colby Nez, Sammie Legah, Eric Sam, Ernest King. The family will receive relatives and friends at Sam’s residence, following services.
