Pauline Smith

August 14, 1924 — March 14, 2009

AMITH-Pauline Smith, of Aztec, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandma and friend, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, in Aztec. She set forth upon her definitive journey at a time of her choosing, on a sunny evening with a westering breeze, after 84 blessed years on this earth. She was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Picayune, Miss. We are richer for knowing her and poorer by her passing, for giving of herself was her greatest joy. For some 25 years she volunteered her time and energies to the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, to brighten the lives of the "other ole folks": was stand-in mother and grandma to scores of people, young and old, whose only bond of kinship was their abiding love for a small woman with a big heart. Her pleasures were in rich black earth between her toes, a warm spring sun upon her face, the laughter of a child - and her grandson, the light of her life. She leaves four brothers, two sons, a grandson, an extended family of more friends and relatives than she could count - and she could count pretty far. She lives with dignity, compassion and grace - by these things will she be remembered. Funeral arrangements are in the good hands of: Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec 405 S. Main Ave. Aztec, NM 87410 (505) 334-9332.
