Rafael (Henry) E. Chavez

Chavez, Rafael (Henry) E. 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2013 with his loving wife at his side. He was born in San Antonito, NM on October 18, 1941 to Efrain and Prudencia (Gonzales) Chavez. Henry was a lifelong resident of Socorro County and attended Socorro High School. He was a cook in the New Mexico National Guard and continued his passion for cooking after retiring from the Guard after 24 years. Henry was employed by New Mexico Tech and retired after 21 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, David Chavez; and Rudy Chavez; his sisters, Ramona Padilla; Flora Wittner; and Delfina Chavez. Henry is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Virginia Chavez; his brothers, Sammy Chavez and wife, Shirley; Antonio Chavez; Efrain (Sonny) Chavez Jr. and wife, Irene; and Mariano Chavez and wife, Kathy; his sister, Cristrella Pino; many other loving family members and close friends; as well as his two precious Chihuahuas, Cisco and Chiquita. A Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Socorro Chapel, 309 Garfield, Socorro. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11:00 am, again at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Socorro Chapel. Interment will follow in the Escondida Cemetery.
