Ray H. Winders

Winders, Ray H. 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Vandalia, MO on May 16, 1929, to Teodore and Eleanor (Smith)Winders. Ray was a resident of Socorro and the Datil area since 1954. He was a lineman for Mountain Bell and retired after 35 years of service. Ray was a member of the Zia Gun Club and the Albuquerque Black Powder Gun Club. He was an avid competition shooter and gunsmith. Ray enjoyed boating, hunting and cowboy polo. More than anything Ray was a very devoted husband and father. He loved and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Van Dewey. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean (Holcomb)Winders; his devoted son, Mike Winders and wife, Sandy; his loving daughter, Peggy Winders-Dewey; and his brothers, Clyde Winders and wife, Mary Lou; and Larry Winders and wife, Naomi. Ray also enjoyed his grandchildren, Casey Dewey; Scott Morris; Rick Montano; Nicole Winders-Haley; and Sefie Winders; and eight great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Socorro 203 Spring Street, with Pastor Bob Farmer officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Fellowship hall also at the First Baptist Church.
