Emblem

Raymond M. Tobin passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024, in Socorro, NM, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. Ray was born on July 1, 1953, in Yonkers, New York, the third child of John Francis Tobin and Elizabeth Victoria Wasileswki.

Preceding him in his death are his parents, and his brother-in-law, Butch Steadman. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Loretta Tobin; his daughter Celeste (Brandon) Childers; grandsons Sean and Ethan Childers; siblings John (Mary) Tobin, Jr., Barbara Steadman, and Charles (Aprille) Tobin; brothers and sisters in law George (Debbie) Murillo, Susan Apodaca, Gloria Rico, Celia Vallejos, Margaret (John) Chavez, Richard (Yvonne) Murillo, Dolores (Rick) Heck, Pat Murillo, Julie (Sonny) Kahsin, and Gilbert Murillo; 30+ nieces and nephews.

Ray proudly served in the United States Air Force as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician; was an instructor and managed EMRTC's safety program; and finished his 30-year career in explosive testing, research, and development as a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Analyst at Aerojet/Rocketdyne. He retired in 2019 and continued to enjoy traveling, golfing, cooking, reading, and watching the NY Giants. He loved spending time with his grandsons and watching them play soccer, football, piano, and guitar. Ray can be remembered for his quick wit, intelligence, work ethic, honest nature, and sense of humor. He is well respected and had a heart that touched many.

His death came as a great shock to the whole family as he received a terminal cancer diagnosis just days before his passing. A special thank you is extended to the nurses and doctors and Socorro General Hospital, Rust Medical Center, and the hospice staff at AmberCare for their care and support.

A private Interment will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
