Rebecca L. De Long

Rebecca Lynn DeLong, 68, wife of John C. DeLong, died peacefully Monday, September 23, 2013, at their home. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on November 6, 1944, Becky was the daughter of the late Wilma Grace Sluyter and the late Lt. Col. (ret.) Harlan Leroy Sluyter, and the stepdaughter of the late Gwen Lunsford Sluyter. Mrs. DeLong, who worked alternately in her life as an executive assistant and homemaker, was a member of Picacho Hills Country Club in Las Cruces, NM, where she was an avid golfer. While she was a loving and loyal, wife, mother and friend, Becky's most cherished role was that of Grandma to her adoring grandchildren: Ivy, Becca, Nick, McCathern, Lily Grace and Jack. Surviving are her husband, Jack, of Rio Rancho; her daughter, Jenny DiGregorio and her husband, Ron, of Albuquerque; her daughter, Julie Painter and her husband, Tommy, of Columbia, SC; her son, Ben DeLong and his wife, Jennifer, of Newport, KY; and her loving grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Harlan Sluyter, Jr. of Rio Rancho, Dianne Martin of Albuquerque, and Lt. Col (ret.) William Sluyter of Roswell, as well as her nephews and niece. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rio Rancho. The family will receive friends at their home following the service. In lieu of flowers, Becky requested that people make donations to Road Runner Food Bank of New Mexico.
