Giles, Reginald F.
One of the most amazing men of our time, Mr. Reginald Francis Giles, age 75, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in his home on March 31, 2016, after enduring a battle with cancer he was not given the opportunity to fight against.
Reginald was born on December 26, 1940, to Herbert and Veronica (Murphy) Giles in New York, NY. He joined the military as a young man and served in the 4th Armored Division in Germany during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life, Doris McTighe, on August14, 1965. Reggie was a tile setter for many years in both New York and New Mexico, where he moved with his family in 1978. He rejoined the service and retired from the United States Air Force and New Mexico Air National Guard, settling in Rio Rancho, NM.
As a child and throughout his life, Reggie had a love for all of God’s creatures; even a sneaky mouse named 007, who is alive and well as we speak. He would take in any stray, no matter the animal population in his home at the time. Reggie’s generosity throughout his life cannot be measured. He was always ready to help his family, a friend, or anyone in need. He was also a member of the Disabled Veterans. He proudly served in the local Honor Guard for many years, and will be laid to rest by these wonderful men and women who will be presenting full military honors for him. We would be hard pressed to find a greater patriot of these United States of America than Reginald Francis Giles.
Reginald was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Veronica Giles; wife, Doris Giles, and his brothers, Donald and Ken Giles. Reginald is survived by his son, Reggie Giles; daughter, Margaret Giese and husband Chris, and their three children, Emily, Logan and Mary; brother, Colin Giles; sister, Bonnie D’Auria and his amazing nieces, nephews and cousins throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Colorado and California.
The family would like to thank Presbyterian Hospice or their excellent guidance and care, especially Liz, Helena and Rox. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to Mike and Rebecca; you two made Mr. G’s wishes a reality.
Services for Reginald will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1502 Sara Rd. SE Rio Rancho, NM at 2:00pm on Thursday, April 7, 2016. Interment will take place at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Rd. SE, immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Disabled American Veterans Charity or Puppies Behind Bars. To view information or leave a condolence, please visit www.danielsfuneral.com
